A New Tack on the North Coast
We transform every part of a retired sail into purpose-driven gear-preserving material, honoring partnerships, and redefining what sustainability really means.
Engineered from past performance for future purpose.
Every component of a sail is intentionally designed for strength, durability, and function. Our process ensures those qualities are not lost.
We repurpose:
Dacron, Mylar & Kevlar Panels
Panels are cut from the entire sail, top to bottom, edge-to-edge, to incorporate all the features and proof of a sail used to its fullest capability.
Stitching & Seams
Preserved where structurally sound to maintain integrity
Shackles & Clips
Integrated into closures, straps, or functional accents
Hanks, Slides & Hardware
Reimagined into fastening systems and design features
This approach allows us to reduce waste to near zero—while maintaining the rugged authenticity that defines every ReSailor product.
Our Founding Team: Engineered by Sailors. Led by Champions.
We are a collective of seasoned professionals who have spent decades working the lines. Our team brings together championship-level racing pedigree — including a former J/22 National Champion — with hands-on approach to operations. We don’t just “upcycle”, we evaluate every sail with the eyes of experts who understand the engineering of high-performance cloth.
For our partners, it's a way to extend their legacy beyond the water.
One Template. A Thousand Stories.
We don’t do mass-produced. Our most popular ReSailor bags are cut from a vintage, hand-made template handed down from a long-time sail maker who made thousands of bags before passing it on to us. We don’t just follow a pattern; we preserve the ‘service record’ of the cloth.
Freshwater Proven. Built to Last.
Born from freshwater racing circuit and grit, ReSailor began when a 1990s gear bag finally gave way, sparking a new tack for lifelong sailor Gordon Perry. Years later, after teaching himself to sew on a vintage machine — starting with sand-filled paperweights — he turned a friend’s donation into the first ReSailor bags.
Today, we turn retired Dacron, Mylar, & other sail material into a collection of rugged, handcrafted styles. Through the ReSailor Exchange, we trade bags for old sails from regattas and clubs, fueling our mission to keep high-performance gear out of landfills.
Through ReSailor Kids, we are teaching the next generation the power of upcycling & sustainability — and then there’s ReSailor SWAG bags, too, just for groups. We are stitching the spirit of the Great Lakes into every bag, handcrafted locally on Ohio’s North Shore.
ReSailor: Every sail has a story; let the good times carry on.
